Welcome to ABC IBC Nashville

ABC IBC's Nashville facility is the hub of our used IBC tote operations in the southeastern United States. Located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, our facility handles thousands of IBC totes annually, processing them through a carefully designed workflow that maximizes reuse, supports reconditioning, and channels end-of-life materials to recycling partners. Our goal is to give every container its highest and best next use, whether that is direct resale, reconditioning with a new bottle, or material recovery through recycling.

Our facility encompasses receiving and inspection areas, a cleaning station, a reconditioning bay, a finished-goods staging area, and a material recovery zone. Each area is designed for efficient workflow, with containers moving logically from intake to output without backtracking. Forklift lanes are clearly marked, safety equipment is positioned throughout, and our team follows documented procedures at every step to ensure consistency, quality, and safety.

Receiving and Initial Inspection

Every IBC tote entering our facility goes through a receiving inspection that determines its grade and routing. Our experienced inspectors evaluate each container against a detailed checklist covering bottle condition (cracks, UV damage, bulging, staining), cage integrity (bent posts, broken welds, corrosion), valve function (operation, leakage, gasket condition), pallet condition (structural soundness, fork pocket integrity), and documentation (UN markings, manufacture date, prior-contents information).

Based on the inspection findings, each tote is assigned one of four grades. Grade A totes are in excellent condition with minimal wear, clean bottles, and functional hardware; these go directly to the cleaning station for preparation and resale. Grade B totes have minor cosmetic issues or moderate wear but are structurally sound and suitable for non-critical applications. Grade C totes have good cages and pallets but need new bottles; these are routed to reconditioning. Grade D containers have significant cage or pallet damage and are sent to material recovery for HDPE recycling and steel scrap processing.

We maintain a detailed database of every tote we process, including the source, prior contents, inspection grade, and final disposition. This traceability allows us to provide our customers with documented history for each container, supports our quality assurance program, and generates the data we need to continuously improve our processes. Transparency is a core value at ABC IBC, and our inspection records are available for customer review upon request.

Cleaning and Preparation

Grade A and B totes that pass inspection move to our cleaning station, where they undergo a multi-step cleaning process tailored to their prior contents and intended next use. For totes that previously held food-grade products and will be resold as food-grade containers, we follow our full food-grade cleaning and sanitization protocol, including alkaline wash, potable water rinse, sanitization with peracetic acid, and thorough drying.

For industrial-grade totes, our standard cleaning includes pressure washing with hot water at 2,000 PSI, detergent wash for stubborn residues, triple rinse, and air drying. We pay particular attention to the bottom valve area, where residue tends to accumulate, and to the top rim and cap threads, where dried product can interfere with sealing. After cleaning, each tote is visually inspected again to verify cleanliness before moving to the finished-goods staging area.

Our cleaning operations generate wastewater that is managed responsibly. Rinse water from food-grade totes is discharged to the sanitary sewer in compliance with our local discharge permit. Rinse water from chemical totes is collected, tested, and either treated for discharge or manifested as waste for proper off-site disposal, depending on the prior contents and analytical results. We never discharge untreated chemical rinse water to the storm sewer or the environment.

The Reconditioning Bay

Grade C totes with serviceable cages but end-of-life bottles are processed in our reconditioning bay. The reconditioning workflow begins with bottle removal: the old HDPE bottle is unbolted from the cage and pallet, carefully extracted, and palletized for transport to our HDPE recycling partner. The cage is then placed on a straightening jig, where any bent tubes or misaligned members are corrected using hydraulic presses and manual tools.

After straightening, the cage is cleaned, derusted if necessary, and touched up with corrosion-resistant paint. Damaged tubes or weld failures are repaired by our certified welders. The pallet base is inspected for cracks, corrosion, and fork pocket damage, with repairs made as needed. Once the cage and pallet are restored to specification, a new HDPE bottle is installed, new valve hardware is fitted, and the completed unit undergoes leak testing and final inspection.

Our reconditioned IBCs carry the new bottle's manufacture date and a reconditioning mark that identifies ABC IBC as the reconditioner. For containers intended for hazardous materials service, the reconditioning process must comply with 49 CFR 180.352, including documented inspection, repair, leak testing, and re-marking. We take pride in the quality of our reconditioned IBCs, and we stand behind them with the same confidence we extend to our best used totes.

Quality Assurance and Customer Service

Quality at ABC IBC is not a department; it is a philosophy that permeates every aspect of our operation.
